Why Attain RE

Attain RE is a brokerage, not a marketing site. All listings are done by Attain RE as brokerage of record, across the Greater Des Moines metro, Iowa City, and Nebraska.

Bryan Curtis, Owner / Managing Broker, Attain RE — licensed in Iowa, Illinois, Florida, and Nebraska. Bryan is also a loan officer (Personal NMLS #1820018), so buyer financing questions don't have to wait on a stranger.

Get Licensed — Roadmap

Not licensed yet? Here is the regulator's path in each state. Steps below are summarized from the regulators named in the sources note — always check the regulator's current page before you apply, as fees, forms, and deadlines change.

Iowa — salesperson license

  1. Meet the age rule: be at least 18 when you submit your application. Iowa states no residency or citizenship requirement for applicants.
  2. Complete 96 hours of pre-license education from an approved provider: a 60-hour course in real estate principles and practices (live instruction or online learning), plus three 12-hour live-instruction-only courses — Buying Practices, Listing Practices, and Developing Professionalism and Ethical Practices. All courses must have been taken less than one year before the commission receives your completed application.
  3. Start the background check early: all applicants are subject to a national criminal history check through the FBI. The regulator notes this alone can take four weeks, quite possibly more, and can be started at any time; checks are valid for 210 calendar days.
  4. Pass the licensing exam: you must already have completed the 60-hour course to be eligible, and you must pass both the state and national portions. Exams are given by appointment through PSI (exam fee $95 per the regulator's page), and exam results are valid until the last working day of the sixth month following the exam pass date.
  5. Get errors and omissions insurance, then apply electronically through your "My Iowa PLB" account. A salesperson is licensed under and associated with a licensed broker or firm — you do not practice independently as a salesperson.

Nebraska — salesperson license

  1. Meet the basic requirements: be at least 19 years old to be issued a license, and be a high school graduate, hold a GED, or show homeschool participation/enrollment evidence.
  2. Complete the current 96-hour pre-license requirement: 90 clock hours in three approved 30-hour courses — Real Estate Principles and Practices, Nebraska Real Estate License Law, and an approved pre-license elective — plus 6 clock hours in Professional Practice and Standards (Course 0003). Note: older guides still cite 66 hours; the Nebraska Real Estate Commission's July 2026 pre-license page states the current requirement is 96 hours total.
  3. Apply online through the Nebraska Real Estate Commission portal and start fingerprinting as soon as possible: all original-licensure applicants undergo a fingerprint-based criminal background check, which the Commission notes takes on average 4–6 weeks to be received.
  4. Take and pass the exam only after Commission approval: once approved to sit, schedule through Pearson VUE. Passing only one portion does not finish the process — a passed section is retained only through three subsequent administrations or six months, whichever comes first.
  5. Finish licensing within 30 days of being notified of a passing grade: submit your score report on the portal, indicate active or inactive status, provide the required documentation on how you will be employed or doing business, and obtain errors and omissions insurance — an active license will not be approved without proof of E&O coverage.
  6. Complete post-license education: Course 7000, 12 hours, within 180 days of licensure, or be placed on inactive status.
